Members of Cheslyn Hay Parish Council have launched a scathing attack on county council officers over the Glenthorn Primary School asbestos closure. Speaking at a parish meeting last week, members said they were kept in the dark over the incident and were not invited to a meeting to discuss the school closure. Pupils from the Glenthorne Drive school have been sent to other schools in the area after asbestos fibres were released during maintenance work. Chairman Cllr Bob Denson said: "I'm very disappointed the County Council didn't see fit to inform us about what was going on. The first I heard was when the press got in touch with me. "Since then we've heard no more. Most of the parents were asking the parish council and because we didn't know, the whole thing seemed worse than it was." County Councillor Kath Perry, who attended the parish meeting, told members the information she had received had been labelled confidential, meaning she couldn't communicate it. However she said: "I would have thought, out of courtesy, the officers would have sent you the information they sent to me. "I think it's totally out of order they didn't." |
