Fans injured in racetrack crash

04:05, Feb 24 2013

More than 30 fans were injured on Saturday when a race car crashed at nearly 200mph.

The horrifying accident happened on the last lap of a race at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The victims were sprayed with large chunks of debris - including a tyre - after Kyle Larson's machine careered into the fencing designed to protect the massive stands lining the most famous track run by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR).

Shannan Devine witnessed the crash from about 250 feet away and said: "I love the sport. I love the speed of the sport. But no one wants to get hurt over it."
