Essington and Great Wyrley CC (83-3) beat Highcroft (82) by seven wickets Spectacular bowling performances by Essington’s Lee Bates and Jaime Broadhurst gave Wyrley a crucial victory that keeps them within touching distance of the promotion spaces in Division 3A of the Staffs Clubs Cricket Championship. Winning the toss and opting to bowl, skipper Bates led the way with a penetrative spell of 9 for 44. Bowling aggressively despite the heat, Bates notched career-best figures. He was ably supported by Broadhurst who bowled with great accuracy, which allowed pressure to build, and he was unlucky to claim only one wicket. Essington’s reply thundered along as the home side raced to an early finish with Craig Griffiths (30) continuing his personal good run of form. |
