Bloxwich United AFC have signalled their intentions for the new season by signing the experienced Ian Cooper from Rushall Olympic. The 29-year-old is a hard-working and committed midfielder who came through the ranks at Walsall before drifting into the non-League game with Bromsgrove Rovers. He then linked up with Blakenall in December 1999 before moving on to Solihull Borough in the summer of 2001. After three years at Damson Park he moved on to Halesowen Town where he made 125 appearances before joining Rushall Olympic in December, 2007, becoming a key figure in the engine room of their side as they made the end of season play-offs in each of the past two seasons. Cooper will take on the role of player-coach at The Old Red Lion Ground. “He is a player that I have been chasing for over a year,” admitted United boss, Michael Moseley. “This is an excellent signing for the club and I am looking forward to working with him. “He is a player of undoubted ability and this signing will make our intentions perfectly clear as we plan for the new season. “We are still looking to strengthen the squad in various areas, with a goalkeeper high on our priority list.” The Red Lions have home friendlies with the likes of Walsall, Chasetown, Tipton Town and Causeway United on the horizon.
